Choosing The Right Contractor

Choosing the Right Soft-Washing Contractor in the Lower Mainland

Published

Last year in British Columbia, one hundred and eighty-one people died from work-related incidents. WorkSafe BC reported around four million lost working days due to injuries in 2022. Each passing year thousands of workers are injured in the province. Construction is the leading industry for work-related incidents. Primarily, falls from elevation and mobile equipment accidents are the leading causes. High percentages of mishaps occur from lack of experience, proper training, and attention. Jobs quickly turn sour if adequate care is not taken to ensure things are done correctly. Workplace crews need to be competent and apply diligent attention to performing duties safely. A home being cleaned is another worksite where risks are present. Not only is there a risk for the workers, but also for those around the house and the home itself. Homeowners would do well to consider who they contract for maintenance. Unfortunately, accidents happen; however, most recorded accidents let us know there was a safer way to do the job. Everyone has a part to play in getting things done right. Your home, your things, and those around it should be free from workplace tragedy.

Choosing the right contractor to wash the exterior of your home is vital for multiple reasons. It can mean things are safer for you and your home. It can be the difference between a job done correctly or not, or for that matter, finished at all. And it can also make a difference in whether the job was done for the right price. Among many other reasons, one of the benefits of soft-washing over pressure-washing is the significantly decreased need for ladders. When possible, we apply our cleaning solution from the ground. This is different than the necessity of climbing onto roofs to pressure wash them. Where you eliminate the need for ladders, you considerably lower the risk of work incidents.

Exterior house washing is an unavoidable necessity in the lower mainland. Abbotsford, notably one of the rainiest cities on the West Coast of Canada, easily has an average of 60 inches of rain each year. Internationally, people know London to have bad weather. However, London, on average, gets half the rainfall as Abbotsford. With the significant amount of rain and the high humidity, many bad types of growth accumulate on roofs, siding, windows, sidewalks, driveways and more. This growth generally comes quickly. People have resorted to frequent pressure washing to keep their exteriors clean for a long time. However, this method has its disadvantages. Pressure washing might help a surface to look good temporarily. However, it won’t last for long. Unfortunately, you can’t rid moss, mould and mildew entirely with water. You must address these aggressive green and black growths with a proper cleaning solution. Your surface will look much better after it is thoroughly soft-washed. Also, these results will be longer lasting than those from pressure washing.

If you’re like most people, you desire a good job done by people you can trust. Look for signs of good communication, competency, and punctuality. Many times red flags occur in the early stages before hiring. If a contractor consistently fails in the little things, there may be reason to believe they won’t follow through with the rest. Consider how each step of the process unfolds. Ensure your questions are appropriately answered. Provide feedback where applicable. It’s your home; there’s every reason to carefully look after it.
